报告摘要:

As professors, we are all involved in nurturing scientific talents at the university level. However, there are much more we should do to give little kids their early exposure to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). Curiosity is a natural trait in children, and well-supervised chemistry labs are the best place for hands-on learning and exploration. The Chemistry Department of CUHK runs a Kids Lab summer program. Over a thousand young minds have been stimulated, and many next generation scientific talents are in the pipeline. We may also serve as mentors and work closely with secondary school students in our labs. My experience in designing a thought-provoking project and its impact will be discussed.

报告人简介:

余济美教授是香港中文大学荣休教授,福州大学能源与环境光催化学科创新引智基地海外学术大师,分别在1980年和1985年获得圣马丁学院学士学位和爱达荷大学博士学位。在美国高校任教十年后回到香港,曾任香港中文大学联合书院院长、李卓敏化学教授和化学系主任,香港研资局自然科学小组成员。他是国际光催化著名科学家和开拓者,拥有光催化纳米材料制造和应用方面等多项专利。近三十年来,他的研究被国际同行高度关注,一直是高被引学者,截至2020年,已经在JACSAngew. Chem., Adv. Mater., Appl. Catal. B.等期刊上发表SCI论文300余篇,总引次数3.8W+,单篇最高SCI引文1700余次,H-index:108, 《催化学报》2015年曾出专刊庆祝其从事光催化20周年。余教授获得了包括国家自然科学二等奖和长江特聘讲座教授等多项荣誉。为我国光催化领域培养了很多知名学者,如中国地质大学余家国教授、福州大学王心晨教授、上海交通大学张礼知教授等。
